I’m studying here at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria because…
The
course curriculum and distinct voluntary modules offered here are
exemplary. Apart from this, if you love traveling, Austria is one of the
best places to live and is also located in central Europe.
I’m studying Sustainable Energy Systems because…
The
Energy crisis is an issue that I have been hearing about for quite a
while now. The necessity for an urgent resolution must be considered.
This is why I am especially driven to further my education in the topic
of Sustainable Energy, so that one day, I will be able to tap into
naturally available resources in an industrial capacity and contribute
to the fight for sustainability.
The biggest challenge in the past months was…
Due
to the pandemic and the Austrian government rules, we had virtual/
hybrid/ on-campus modes of classes. And sometimes we felt the need for
face-to-face communication with faculty. I would like to take this
moment to thank and appreciate our supportive professors who made
themselves available for us at all times when required.
What makes studying in an international surrounding so special…
Traveling
to Austria has also helped me to step out of my comfort zone. Immersing
myself in a new environment has made my entire journey interesting. It
helped to understand Cross-Cultural Awareness. It has also helped me in
enhancing my international network, where I am finding out new cultures
and perspectives.

I’m studying at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria because…
The
university provides very good comprehensive Master Programmes,
especially in the Energy field as well as the modern technical
laboratories which extremely support the theoretical curriculum. In
addition, I’m attracted by the sport clubs and the diversity of sport
activities as well as the social events and like being part of a diverse
student body.
I’m studying Sustainable Energy Systems because…
Global
warming and fossil fuel depletion increasingly place the development of
sustainable energy systems at the top of political and industrial
agendas around the world. Moreover, major investments in new energy
technologies and systems to improve energy efficiency and reduce
greenhouse gases emissions will continue to grow in the upcoming decades
so that I think the future will most likely mainly be powered by
renewable energy resources.
The biggest challenge in the past months was…
To
deal with the worldwide pandemic restrictions besides some obstacles of
remote teaching. Otherwise, everything has been successfully adapted
especially the procedures for new arrivals such as, residence permit and
health insurance…etc.
What makes studying in an international surrounding so special…
Having
the opportunity to explore and learn from the diversity of cultures
coming from all over the world. Moreover, having the important chance to
learn how to deal with extreme new cultural differences.

I’m studying at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria because…
Austria
is one of the best places in the world to live in! Especially, if you
are interested in the beautiful landscape of the Alpine region.
I’m studying Sustainable Energy Systems because…
I
was looking for a Master degree with focus on the technical aspects of
renewable energies. In the end, the University of Applied Sciences was
convincing with its international orientation and the practice-oriented
teaching.
The biggest challenge in the past months was…
Maintain
interest in academic education despite the obstacles of remote
teaching. But the UAS attaches great importance to classroom teaching,
which is very important for me.
What makes studying in an international surrounding so special…
The
collaboration and interaction with students from all kinds of countries
and continents is a very valuable experience, which has had a great
impact on my professional and personal development.

I
believe green energies are a must in today’s dynamic world, it is
necessary to protect the environment and ensure a sustainable lifestyle
based on renewable resources respecting nature's balance.
The biggest challenge in the past months was…
to
cope with the current worldwide pandemic crisis, nevertheless, the
entire program has been successfully adapted to a flexible and online
mode allowing us to have access to the different lectures and exams
while keeping in touch with the professors and university staff.
What makes studying in an international surrounding so special…
is
the opportunity to learn from different cultures, it allows us to get
new perspectives and understanding of how renewable energies can be
applied in an efficient way according to each country’s specific needs.

What are the benefits of studying SES at the University of Applied Sciences in Wels?
The
SES studies in FH Wels offers profound exposure and enriching
experience from state-of-the-art facilities, friendly and supportive
staff to a community of students from different cultures and
professional background. Its particular emphasis on
internationally-oriented renewable systems experts greatly enhances the
adaptation of graduates in different markets, sectors and regions of the
world.
Highlights during your studies?
Some
of the best parts of the programme were the group projects that
emphasize teamwork in a multi-cultural setting such as the feasibility
study and development of a 50MW solar PV power plant project in
El-Gouna, Egypt. The Smarter Europe solar exhibition in Munich which
provided opportunity to meet and interact with key industry experts and
companies was another focal point of the programme for me. The brewing
course and an excursion to some of the oldest breweries in Upper Austria
provided deep insight into the science of beer-making and Austrian
culture. The overall experience of the whole study period was deeply
enriching.
My 3 words about FH OÖ Wels:
Dynamism, international and community.
What’s next?
A
wide array of career option is open to me within the renewable energy
space. Currently seeking career-enhancing opportunities within the
Austrian labour market and already attending interviews. Something will
be in the bag soon, I’m very optimistic.
Manoj Sanweria
Graduated in October 2021.
Why did you decide to study in Wels?
I have worked for 25 years in the telecommunication industry. Since my
bachelor’s time, i.e., in 1990 when I was studying electrical
engineering, I was fascinated with solar energy being used in our
hostels to heat water. I started exploring about alternate sources of
energy, e.g., nuclear power, hydroelectricity, and biogas that could
meet the energy need of large population of India. For last 10 years I
have been reading a lot about renewable energy that could combat the
ill-effects of fossil-based energy resulting into global warming causing
wildfires, floods, endangering marine life, and disturbing
biodiversity.
What are the benefits of studying SES at the University of Applied Sciences in Wels?
Studying SES in Wels could help me with opportunities for working in
the energy industry in the central Europe. Studying here would help me
associate with European Union’s resolve to meet Paris climate agreement
recommendations of reducing carbon and greenhouse gases emission in the
world.
Highlights during your studies?
Living
in Austria with my son and wife and meeting new people, culture, and
traditions has been the highlight for me. Learning renewable energy
sources: solar, wind, hydropower, biomass, geothermal, hydrogen, nuclear
and related technologies Solar PV, Solar Thermal has been great.
