Interaction Techniques

Interaction design and interaction technology play an important role in ensuring that people can interact effectively with various digital systems. While interaction design focuses on the creative aspects, interaction technology emphasizes the technical concepts relevant to modern user interfaces.

In general, we aim to examine as many forms of communication and their technical concepts as possible in detail. There are currently a number of trends that are relevant due to technological advancements. These include, for example, augmented and virtual reality (AR and VR, often referred to as XR) in industrial contexts (such as training new employees in production processes), in medicine and healthcare, and in sports (such as the Air Race World Championship). Using specific problem scenarios, you will familiarize yourself with various interaction techniques.

Voice computing is another important trend that enables communication that is as natural as possible. Alexa, Google Voice, Siri, and Microsoft Cognitive Services are prime examples of this field, which we study in detail—both in theory and in practice—so that you will be able to develop such systems throughout your career.

Human-centered robotics, as exemplified by humanoids such as NAO and Pepper, first allows you to explore the world of robotics and understand the potential of human-centered robotics in various contexts. Of course, you will independently address specific research questions using the humanoids in the lab.

In addition to the digital world, the analog world also offers a wealth of information. To transform this information into a digital format, you’ll explore sensor technology and image processing. In the process, you’ll learn to understand and implement concepts such as the Internet of Things (IoT) with ease and enjoyment.
