Equipment of the Digital Media Department
Students of the Media Technology and Design, Digital Arts and Interactive Media courses have a wide range of professional equipment at their disposal. The technical equipment includes high-quality hardware and software tools, which are installed in special laboratories or can be borrowed for use off campus via a regulated rental service.
GST // UST – Graphic & Universal Studio [FH2.409 // FH2.408]
Our studios, which focus on animation, game design, video special effects and computer graphics, are equipped with the latest Windows machines, including powerful graphics cards and extensive software packages. For example, Adobe CC Suite (e.g. Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects etc.), Scirra Construct, Unity, Epic Games Unreal, Foundry Nuke, Autodesk Maya & 3DS Max, Blender, Moho Animation Software, ZBrush, Chaos Group V-Ray and Maxon Redshift are used in the various specialist areas.
Renderfarm and -cluster
In addition to the option of operating our computer labs as a render cluster during non-teaching hours, we also have our own render farm in the server room. Eight machines with AMD Threadripper 32-core CPUs and four RTX 2080 (64GB Ram) graphics cards each shorten the rendering times of student work.

The Allrounder with the specialist areas of web and mathematics. All three rooms offer modern Windows systems with comprehensive software equipment (e.g.: Khanacademy, JetBrains PhpStorm) as well as workstations for private notebooks. Virtualization also enables the use of alternative systems such as: Linux Server.
FRG – FruitGarden [FH2.421]
Hagenberg's Apple Macintosh Lab is used for a variety of courses: Design projects (Adobe CC Suite), video editing (Adobe Premiere) and audio design / processing (Apple Logic Pro, cycling74 MAX + Novation RemoteSL MIDI keyboards).
MRS A & B – Mixed Reality Studios [FH2.346 // FH2.347]
The two project studios for virtual and augmented reality, which are operated jointly with the partner degree programs Software Engineering & Mobile Computing, are equipped with two graphics-rich PCs and hardware devices such as HTC Vive, Oculus Rift & Go, Microsoft Hololens, Magic Leap One, etc. A truss system with an 80″ LCD screen and surround sound monitoring complete the flexibly usable space.
LRS – Live Recording Studio [FH2.318]
This video and photo studio offers ambitious filmmakers and photographers everything their heart desires. The LRS features a professional green box with coving on all converging edges. The green area can be completely darkened with electric curtains and carpets, and two independently height-adjustable lighting galleries with a variety of remote-controlled panel lights, spacelights and ARRI spotlights provide the right lighting. For elaborate tracking shots and pans, there is a GFM dolly that can be converted from pneumatic tires to a rail system. A separate storage room is equipped with a variety of spotlights, color filters, fill lights, tripods and practical props to be prepared for any situation.
AES – Audio Editing Studio [FH2.317]
The recording studio is based on a Macintosh system with RME audio hardware (M-16 AD/DA converter + 3 x Micstasy) and Adam S3X 5.1 monitoring. The control room with analog hardware (e.g.: Focusrite ISA430, SPL Frontliner, SSL Preamps) and modern production tools (Native Instruments Komplete Control Keyboard & Maschine Controller, Doepfer Modularsynthesizer) is connected to a recording room with an extensive microphone collection (e.g.: Neumann U87, KM184, AKG C414, etc.). The Live Recording Studio, the Video Editing Studio and the AudiMax can also be connected to the studio via MADI for large recording sessions.
GDS // DMS – Game Development & Digital Masters Studio [FH2.414 // FH2.456]
Flexible project labs that can be booked and set up by the students themselves depending on the hardware and room setup required. Powerful computer hardware and common games consoles are available for developers and testers.
HYPE – Hyperraum [FH2.117]
A photo studio that can be completely darkened with two light tables separated by a flexible curtain. A large number of Elinchrom spotlights and flash lights paired with various light-directing attachments and two permanently installed Nikon full-format DSLRs including various zoom, telephoto and macro lenses complete the inventory of this special laboratory. Two column stands and repro tables also enable work in the field of analog animation (clay, stop motion, etc.).
