Curriculum

Social Work deals with the causes, effects, and potential solutions to social problems. The goal of the FH program in Social Work is to provide application-oriented training for experts in the inclusion, rehabilitation, and reintegration of people in difficult life situations. Students learn to act professionally within the tension between clients and beneficiaries, as well as between empathy and boundaries in client relationships.

Focus Areas of the Program:

The Bachelor’s degree in Social Work is designed as a generalist training in all eight fields of social work:

  • Social Work with Families
  • Social Work in the Criminal Justice System
  • Social Work in the Healthcare Sector
  • Social Work with Elderly People
  • Social Work with People with Disabilities
  • Intercultural Social Work and Social Security
  • Socio-Educational Work
  • Education, Employment, Gender

Additional Important Aspects of the Program Include:

  • Developing professional personal competencies such as communication, teamwork, and reflective skills
  • Gaining scientifically-based knowledge of various methodological approaches
  • Perceiving social problems in a nuanced way and developing strategies for solutions
  • Learning the theoretical foundations of the profession and developing a professional identity
  • Acquiring relevant medical, educational, sociological, psychological, and social policy knowledge
  • Understanding historical, theoretical, and ethical foundations of social work
  • Understanding and applying legal and organizational frameworks and quality assurance tools
  • Exploring and applying research-specific questions

Professional Internship

A university of applied sciences degree is characterized by the practical application of the content learned in the future professional environment. A key component is the professional internship, which is mandatory in bachelor's programs. In the Bachelor’s program in Social Work, the professional internship, amounting to 420 hours, is completed between the 4th and 5th semesters.

During the internship, the student is supervised by one representative from the faculty and one from the organization where the internship takes place. The internship can also be completed abroad.

Additionally, in the bachelor's program, an information internship of 140 hours is completed between the 1st and 2nd semesters.
