Project work abroad

Patrick Bendra is currently studying in our Master's degree Programme in Medical Engineering (MME). As part of this programme, the student is spending time at the renowned US university in Berkeley, where he is also preparing his Master's thesis.

The focus of Patrick Bendra's work is a comparative study of wearable technology - video monitoring and analysis for exposure measurement and risk assessment of upper limb disorders.

This stay was made possible by the good contacts that the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria has had with this top academic institution for several years.

Even before his return to Linz, he answered two questions about his stay:

Mr. Bendra, why did you decide to study abroad as part of your MME degree?

I chose to study abroad at UC Berkeley to immerse myself in a diverse academic environment, experience how research is conducted at a prestigious institution, and broaden my horizons by experiencing different cultural perspectives.

How would you summarize your experience abroad?

My time at UC Berkeley was very rewarding. The opportunity to collect real field data and present my work to an auditorium were highlights of my academic career. Doing research allowed me to see a lot of America, which was an invaluable part of my experience. Although the location of my housing and the off-campus lab meant that I was somewhat removed from the main events and social happenings, it provided a unique opportunity for focused study and personal growth during my stay.
