Engineering the Intelligent Industry
Artificial Intelligence is changing more than software. It is transforming how products, machines, production systems and entire industrial processes are designed, operated and improved.
The Master’s programme Digital Engineering & Industrial AI (DEIA) prepares you to shape this transformation. You will combine engineering expertise with digital technologies, data and Artificial Intelligence – from Model-Based Engineering, simulation and Digital Twins to Machine Learning, Computer Vision and intelligent cyber-physical systems.
The focus is not AI in isolation, but its application to real industrial challenges. You will learn how to develop, integrate and evaluate digital and AI-based solutions and turn technological potential into real industrial value.

Career Profile
Industry Testimonials: Why Choose DEIA?
“We see a clear rise in demand for professionals who combine engineering, data and AI and can integrate new technologies into existing industrial processes. For voestalpine, this combination of technical understanding and practical application skills is particularly valuable.”
Helmut Gruber
CTO voestalpine Steel Division
“Industrial AI needs people who understand technical systems, speak the language of customers and can translate digital technologies into intelligent products. At KEBA, we have recognized this. This combination of skills will be increasingly in demand in the future.”
Julian Bauer-Jeryczynski
Vice President Innovation & Future Technologies, KEBA
“Whether in intelligent production or the management of energy flows, AI delivers value when combined with sound engineering expertise. At Fronius, we increasingly need professionals who bring both together to develop robust, practical solutions.”
Harald Langeder
CTO, Fronius International GmbH
“Europe’s industry needs professionals who combine engineering and AI with business understanding. For companies like Semperit, it is essential that this leads to tangible improvements in processes and products. This ability to put technology into practice is exactly what we need for the next phase of industrial transformation.”
Manfred Stanek
CEO, Semperit AG Holding
Practical Experience and Industry
Practice is not an add-on in DEIA – it is an essential part of the programme.
Labs and project-based courses allow you to apply your knowledge from the beginning. You will develop cyber-physical systems with AI components, explore industrial AI use cases and later work on complex, preferably industry-based projects that combine engineering, data, AI, simulation and business perspectives.
The programme culminates in a practice-oriented Master’s thesis, giving you the opportunity to work on a real technological or industrial challenge in depth.
Labs & Infrastructure
Studying Digital Engineering & Industrial AI means working with real technology.
At Campus Wels, you have access to engineering and research infrastructure in areas such as Smart Production, Digital Twins, robotics, electrical engineering, sensors and machine vision, control engineering, simulation and rapid prototyping.
This allows you to move beyond theory and test how digital and AI-based solutions interact with real physical systems.
The Campus Wels infrastructure includes, among other things, electrical and electronics labs, industrial machine vision, measurement and control systems, rapid prototyping as well as model-based and hardware-in-the-loop environments. The campus also operates a Centre for Smart Manufacturing.
International Environment
Study in English. Work Internationally.
DEIA is taught entirely in English and brings together students with different technical, cultural and academic backgrounds. Our campus offers an international study environment while placing you directly in one of Austria’s most important industrial regions. This combination provides an excellent setting to build an international network and connect with technology-driven companies during your studies.
