Energy. Digital. Future. JOINT degree program

The energy sector is undergoing a fundamental transformation: climate change, growing energy demand, renewable energy, and digitalization are reshaping the entire system. Professionals are needed who combine technical expertise, economic insight, and regulatory know-how with digital thinking. The international joint master’s program Digital Energy Solutions (DES) is designed to prepare students for these challenges. The program combines energy engineering, IT, markets, and innovation, providing the skills needed to make the energy supply of the future secure, sustainable, and efficient – and to actively drive the energy transition forward.

The curriculum is offered jointly by Johannes Kepler University Linz (JKU) and the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria (FH OÖ).

The field of energy is multifaceted, spanning economic, legal, and technical dimensions. This diversity is intentionally reflected in the admission requirements of the Digital Energy Solutions Master’s programme. Applicants must hold a completed Bachelor’s or Diploma degree.
Eligible candidates are those whose prior studies demonstrate a clear thematic connection to economic, legal, technical, or related interdisciplinary domains. The range of accepted academic backgrounds is therefore broad, yet purposefully aligned with the content and objectives of the programme.
This targeted openness brings together students with complementary strengths and perspectives, enabling them to collaboratively develop innovative solutions for the complex challenges of the energy transition.
Deadline for Applications

June 30, 2026 for all applications from the EU; otherwise May 31, 2026.
Non-EU applicants who require a visa for Austria should submit their application as early as possible, as processing the visa application may take some time.

As part of the JOINT program, tuition fees are charged at both the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria (FH OÖ) and Johannes Kepler University (JKU). This particularly affects applicants from Third-Country Nationals, as JKU offers extensive opportunities for tuition fee exemptions
