WFT Students in the 4th Semester Visited the New Test Center of Voestalpine Stahl
On May 12, 4th semester Materials Science & Manufacturing Technology students under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Ludovic Samek visited voestalpine Stahl Linz. During this excursion, they were given a guided tour of the specimen workshop and the newly constructed testing center at voestalpine Stahl.
Since February 2023, the comprehensive testing and approval processes for cold-rolled strip products have been taking place in a newly built state-of-the-art testing center, with which voestalpine is playing a pioneering role in the steel industry worldwide in terms of digitalisation, automation and forward-looking work organisation. 23 million Euros were invested for this purpose.
The new testing center for quality assurance of cold-rolled, hot-dip galvanised, electrolytically galvanized and coated steel strips as well as electrical steel strips sets completely new standards in quality testing. 95 percent of all samples - a top international figure - are measured, processed and pre-sorted here fully automatically for the next work stages.
