On September 22, 2024, students on the Precess Engineeringand Production (VTP) and Plant Construction Management (AB) programs were invited to a special process engineering “treat” at Kremsmueller in Steinhaus near Wels. An approx. 50 m high column with a diameter of around 2 m was ready for loading in the assembly hall. Its journey to the customer was “firmly booked” for the next day.
Managing Director Gregor Kremsmueller personally took the time to introduce the Kremsmueller Group and explain the special challenges at the interface between the plant operators and the large engineering firms. As the latter have increasingly withdrawn to their core competencies, plant manufacturers like Kremsmueller are left with an ever-increasing range of engineeringand assembly tasks.
The subsequent tour of the production and assembly halls had everything to offer that makes the heart of a process engineer beat faster. Starting with the sheet metal cutting system, then the rolling-in machine for the individual sections, on to the welding systems for assembling the apparatus. The heat treatment of the gigantic components was also demonstrated; a room almost as large as the Audimax at the Wels campus is used for this. The storey-high apparatuses, which are destined for the pharmaceutical industry and will soon be sent to their final destination, were particularly memorable.
After the tour, students were able to ask questions to the experts from Kremsmueller. The tour was led by Dipl.-Ing.(FH) M. Pernsteiner and C. Buschenhenke, MSc, who had both acquired their expertise in welding technology and plant engineering at the FH OÖ Wels Campus. FH-Prof. Dr. A. Angerbauer concluded by emphasizing the strong connection between the teaching content of the Process Engineeringand Production (VTP) and Plant Construction Management (AB) programs and what could be seen in the halls of Kremsmueller.
