Webasto Makeathon: AMM master student developed innovative solutions for sensor integration into roof systems

At the first Makeathon of automotive supplier Webasto, around 30 students and graduates spent a weekend working on solutions around autonomous driving.
The winning team, Lukas Harrer (Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences), Leif van Holland (University of Bonn), Marc Wagner (Ulm University of Technology) and Richard Kollert (Furtwangen University of Applied Sciences), developed solutions for identifying specific features from extensive sensor data. They were rewarded with 2,000 euros in prize money.
"This team not only succeeded in combining the individual strengths of the team members particularly well, but they also found a particularly fast and effective solution approach from which we can derive direct benefit for the Roof Sensor Module. With teamwork and a great presentation, the four team members were able to convince all along the line," said Michael Hülsen, Director Product Management Roof Sensor Module at Webasto.
Webasto is a global innovative system partner to the mobility industry and among the 100 largest suppliers to the automotive industry worldwide. With its Roof Sensor Module, the company from Stockdorf near Munich offers its customers the option of integrating sensors for autonomous driving functions into the roof.
