Sensitive analytes can also be quantified after conversion steps (derivatization). Gas chromatography has been one of the most important technologies in environmental analysis for decades and is increasingly being used in food analysis due to its strong development in terms of sensitivity and selectivity.

High pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC)
UHPLC enables the separation of complex sample mixtures for the detection of micro and macro ingredients down to the single-digit picogram range.
