Faculty Exchange Sparks New Hydrogen Initiatives

This January, 2025, the WTUN Exchange Program facilitated a dynamic visit from  Dr Patcharawat Charoen-amornkitt, a leading hydrogen expert from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) in Bangkok, Thailand to the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria.

Dr. Pat’s visit to the School of Engineering in Wels was centred around exploring potential joint initiatives in both teaching and research, particularly in the burgeoning field of hydrogen technology. He was hosted by Dr. Christina Toigo, a fellow hydrogen expert at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, and the week was packed with engaging discussions, fostering new ideas and opportunities for future collaborations.

One of the highlights of the visit was Dr. Pat’s tour to the Technologiezentrum Energie (TZE) Ruhstorf, a facility renowned for its cutting-edge advancements in energy research. There, he had the opportunity to engage with Dr. Tim Bieringer, a dedicated hydrogen researcher, which opened the door to exciting collaborative possibilities. Their discussions extended beyond hydrogen research, laying the groundwork for broader faculty exchanges within the School of Engineering, potentially enriching both institutions’ academic ecosystems.

In addition to intellectual exchanges, Dr. Pat enjoyed guided lab and campus tours, offering him a comprehensive look at University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria’s world-class facilities and academic environment.

This exchange is an exciting step forward in the growing partnership between KMUTT and University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria. It opens new opportunities for joint research and innovative teaching in hydrogen technology. The shared knowledge and stronger connection between the two will pave the way for impactful projects and global collaboration, helping both institutions and contributing to the world’s push for sustainable energy solutions.
