FH-Prof. PD Dr. Michael Affenzeller, Academic Director of the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria and an expert in artificialintelligence, has served as Chair of the World Technology Universities Network (WTUN), a global association of technology-oriented universities, since July 2025. Owing to their academic focus, these universities and institutions share significant common ground in teaching, research, and innovation.
“The global nature of the network, with members from every continent, is something I find particularly enriching. It fosters a greater diversity of ideas and initiatives, enabling members to inspire one another and learn from each other,” says Michael Affenzeller, highlighting the benefits of the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria’s membership in the network.
The network’s annual conference is currently being held in Linz, not least due to the chairmanship of FH-Prof. PD Dr. Michael Affenzeller.
The overarching theme of this year’s event is Responsible Science: The Role of Higher Education for Shaping the Future.
The conference was opened by Eva-Maria Holzleitner BSc, Austria’s Minister for Women, Science and Research. Notably, she began her career in the research group of FH-Prof. PD Dr. Michael Affenzeller at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria's Hagenberg Campus.
To mark the opening of the WTUN conference, LT1 broadcast a feature on the event and the importance of international scientific collaboration. The report, titled “Brauchen Wissenschaft für alle” (“Science for Everyone”), is available here: https://www.lt1.at/aktuelles/brauchen-wissenschaft-fuer-alle/.
