Responsible Innovation
For a pioneering master’s program like Human-Centered Computing, sustainable innovation is part of our DNA, because the major challenges of our time can only be permanently solved through interdisciplinary and innovative ideas.
On December 11, 2019, European Commission President Dr. Ursula von der Leyen presented the “European Green Deal” initiative, which aims to reduce the EU’s net greenhouse gas emissions to zero. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the UN came into effect on January 1, 2016, with a 15-year timeframe. In 2019, Austria committed to these goals through “Agenda 2030” and defined an SDG Action Plan 2019+ (bmk.gv.at).
For these reasons, you will begin exploring the concepts of “technology assessment, sustainability, and responsible innovation” as early as the first semester, thereby gaining important insights as well as methods and tools for social and ecological solutions. However, the associated change processes must be designed thoughtfully so that fears and concerns are addressed professionally and the desired goals are actually achieved. To this end, the courses “Change Management” and “Data Protection and Ethics” offer further in-depth content in the following semesters, enabling you to develop and implement sustainable solutions in a respectful manner.
