International Office

The International Office is the place where all international affairs issues come together. The main function of the International Office is to acquire and maintain international university partnerships. As a result, student, lecturer and administrative exchanges and international projects are organized. At the beginning of each academic year, the International Office informs all students about the possibilities and procedures for a semester abroad for the following academic year.

In order to provide the best possible support for international students (approx. 70 each semester), the International Office relies on the help of Austrian students. There are two ways in which you can support the International Office:

Become a member of the Erasmus Student Network (ESN).
This student group organizes various events and excursions for incoming students during the semester and supports the International Office during the Welcome Week before the start of the semester.

Become a buddy for incoming students.
A buddy is a mentor for a small group of incoming students (approx. 3-6 people) during the semester. Tasks include picking up students from the train station, familiarizing them with the IT infrastructure at the start of the semester, helping with housing problems, providing support in the event of illness, going out together/excursions, etc.

If you are interested, please send an e-mail to esn@fh-steyr.at.

For contact persons, opening hours and contact information, see “Address and opening hours on campus” or “Contact persons on campus”. Further information on the International Office can be found at https://fh-ooe.at/en/international/international-office-steyr

ÖH elections
The student representatives and the university representatives are elected every two years (synchronized with the ÖH elections at universities in May).

ÖH fee
The amendment to the University of Applied Sciences Studies Act came into force on December 5, 2007, which stipulates in §4 para. 9 that students on university of applied sciences degree programs and participants in continuing education courses are members of the Austrian National Union of Students in accordance with the Universities and Colleges Act 1998 - HSG 1998. According to § 29 para. 2 and para. 6 HSG 1998, the ÖH has the right and also the obligation to collect a student fee (ÖH fee) from all its members. According to § 29 para. 4 HSG 1998, payment of the fee is a prerequisite for admission to or continuation of studies. Access to teaching materials on the learning and communication platform ILIAS is only possible after payment of the ÖH fee.
Due to this legal basis, you are “full” members of the ÖH and are therefore also subject to the provisions of the HSG 1998, with all the associated rights and obligations. One of these obligations is the payment of the student fee (ÖH fee).
Currently, the student fee is € 20.50 plus a premium of € 0.70 for a collective accident and liability insurance, which is collected by the ÖH based on the right to levy a special contribution in addition to the student fee and paid to the insurer (currently Allianz-Elementar). The ÖH contribution currently amounts to € 21.20 per semester.

Further information on the ÖH can be found at http://oeh.fh-ooe.at/.
