A project by FH OÖ students and a team from the BMW Group plant in Steyr was recognized for outstanding quality awareness by the European Six Sigma Club Germany.
"Our practical projects are an integral part of the education at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria and a win-win situation for companies and students. However, the award of such a prestigious prize to a company project is also a special highlight for us at the Steyr campus and a great confirmation of the high quality of our education," says course director Herbert Jodlbauer, delighted with the award for his students.
"For us, quality is the constant search for improvement. Above all, lean and liveable processes help us to become better every day," say the four students of the Operations Management master's degree program Christoph Latschbacher, Srdjan Rajak, Michael Schöberl and David Schmidtbauer after the award ceremony, the German Six Sigma Award Practice 2020 in bronze. The topic of the practical project was process improvement in the production of threads for cylinder heads.
Tomorrow's industry needs highly trained specialists
The Managing Director of BMW Motoren GmbH, Dr. Alexander Susanek, praises the students' performance: "The zero-defect principle is a top priority in the production of our premium engines at the BMW Group plant in Steyr." Dr. Alexander Susanek continues: "In order to be able to consistently deliver this high product quality, we need highly trained specialists. The University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria makes a decisive contribution to this: here, the knowledge and enthusiasm for production that form the basis for the industry of tomorrow are imparted in a practical way."
