Viktoria Doppler
Winner of the Chimney Award 2021 | Occupation: Head of Intralogistics at ABF GmbH | Education: International Logistics Management, Digital Transport and Logistics Management
Viktoria Doppler (24) from Linz was honored this year with the "Chimney Award" from the FH OÖ Faculty of Business and Management at the Steyr campus. As a graduate of the Digital Transport and Logistics Management (DTLM) program at the FH OÖ Faculty of Business and Management in Steyr, she received the award for her outstanding achievements and exceptional thesis, making her one of only six students in the entire graduating class.
Gamified Logistics Workshops in Career Choice
In her master's thesis, Viktoria Doppler examined the personal attitude towards a job in the logistics industry and the impact of gamified workshops on this attitude. The focus was on individuals of different age groups who were actively engaged in choosing their careers. After participating in the workshop, it was observed that, among other enlightening aspects, participants' personal interest in jobs in the logistics industry was strengthened. She explored this topic because she values the visibility of the industry and wants to contribute to increasing interest in logistics, especially since this field offers many exciting and varied job opportunities.
"Enthusiasm, Openness, and Atmosphere at the Campus are Inspiring": FH Studies and Future Plans
After completing her bachelor's degree in International Logistics Management, Viktoria Doppler pursued the part-time master's program in Digital Transport and Logistics Management at the FH OÖ Campus Steyr. What particularly excited Viktoria Doppler was the atmosphere and enthusiasm at the Steyr campus: "You always receive support from the instructors. Besides the content, it was primarily this enthusiasm, atmosphere, and openness that motivated me to complete my master's program in Steyr." Professionally, Viktoria Doppler has specialized in intralogistics, where she combines her two central areas of education—the IT skills from her HTL education and logistics from her university studies—and applies them in practice.
Viktoria Doppler is currently employed at ABF GmbH in Linz. Her tasks include requirement analyses for intralogistics automation projects, creating software specifications in the team, and actively managing her own projects. After her ILM bachelor's degree, she started her career at ABF in combination with the part-time DTLM study in Steyr.
She began in the marketing and sales department, gaining comprehensive insights into automation projects in a short period. Gradually, she shifted her focus towards requirement analysis and project management of intralogistics projects. Since early 2021, she has been leading the Intralogistics department as Head of Intralogistics, responsible for the coordinated planning and implementation of projects in this area.
What were the highlights of your study time? What was your most memorable moment?
One highlight would definitely be the team spirit that I experienced with my fellow students. Both in the bachelor's and master's programs, we were faced with challenges that could only be overcome as a team. When a challenge is tackled together and, ideally, with fun, then you know you've done something right. A specific example of such an experience was participating in the Supply Chain Skills Challenge at Weber State University in Utah, USA. In 2018, I and three other classmates got the chance to travel to Utah, participate in a case study competition after a small road trip, and we won first place in our group. We achieved this success as a team and it was the result of remarkable teamwork.
Why did you choose to study at the Campus Steyr back then?
As a contrast to my technical education at HTL Paul-Hahn Linz, I wanted to pursue a business direction in my studies. However, it shouldn't be purely business-focused but should also have a specific emphasis. A presentation by FH OÖ Campus Steyr at my school drew my attention to the field of logistics. I immediately saw parallels between the sought-after qualities of this program and my interests and strengths. After evaluating various logistics study options in Austria and attending the open house day in Steyr, the decision was quickly made.
Which parts/knowledge from your studies have particularly supported you in achieving your career plans?
It's not specific knowledge that has made my entry into the workforce and my everyday work easier—it's the experience of how processes run in companies in different industries and the competence gained from getting to know some of these areas up close through company projects, case studies, or internships. Furthermore, the affirmed support from instructors during courses helps in confidently implementing my own ideas and concepts in the business world.
What advice can you give to current students for their future paths?
During the course of your studies, you receive comprehensive education in a specific field and beyond. However, you cannot learn everything that will be needed in your professional life in three or five years. Therefore, my motto is to take away what is most important to you from a course to be able to recall it in the long run. Additionally, between assignments, presentations, group work, and exams, always find time for balance. Ideally, this includes evening exchanges with other students on campus.
