Green Sparks Award

With the Green Sparks Award, the Hagenberg Faculty honors outstanding student work that deals creatively, innovatively, and solution-oriented with topics of sustainability in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Green Sparks Award 2026

The aim is to promote commitment to sustainability within the faculty and to highlight the contribution students make to an ecologically responsible, socially just, and economically viable future.

Submissions

The following may be submitted:

  • Theses (bachelor's or master's theses)
  • Results of semester or study projects
  • Results from courses (projects, studies, prototypes, videos, concepts, etc.)

which can be thematically assigned to one or more Sustainable Development Goals.

Participation

The following are eligible to participate:

  • Students and graduates of the degree programs at Hagenberg Faculty of the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria (Bachelor and Master)
  • As individuals or project teams
  • With work in the above-mentioned format that was created in WS25/26 and SS26.

Evaluation criteria

The following will be evaluated:

  • Relevance to the topic of sustainability and SDGs
  • Degree of innovation and creativity
  • Quality of implementation

The best three projects will be honored at a public event at the faculty (Christmas party) and awarded prize money of

  1. € 500,- for first place
  2. € 300,- for second place
  3. € 200,- for third place.

Submission deadline

September 30, 2026

Submissions should be made using the form below. Please note:

  • Multiple entries are possible for authors, degree programs, and supervisors.
  • Please provide an abstract (max. 500 words).
  • In the field “Reference to SDGs,” please briefly explain which SDGs the submission relates to and how this reference exists (max. 300 words).
  • Submissions may be made in German or English.

The following applies to the actual content of the submission:

  • For master's theses and project works, at least the written document must be uploaded; optionally, a video link can also be provided.
  • For study projects and LVA results, at least one video link must be provided; optionally, a document (e.g., project report, seminar paper, etc.) can be uploaded.
  • For all types of submissions, at least one and at most three representative images must be provided.

Videos (max. length: 3 minutes) can be hosted on any platform as long as they are publicly accessible via the specified link.
