Embedded Systems (EMB)
The Embedded Systems research group primarily focuses on the development and optimization of embedded systems for artificial intelligence applications, wearable systems for recording human movement and vital data, and the protection of hardware against classical as well as future quantum-based attacks.
In the field of Embedded AI, the group aims to make AI algorithms executable on embedded systems, thereby substantially multiplying the potential applications of AI. In addition, methods are being researched that allow AI algorithms to be retrained dynamically at runtime directly on embedded systems.
The Wearable Computing area focuses on wearable embedded systems attached to the body that are equipped with sensors to record human movement data. These devices typically transmit data wirelessly to other computer systems for analysis, providing insights into user activities and physiological states. A closely related focus lies in digital assistance systems for care applications.
The research spectrum is complemented by the Hardware Security domain, where post-quantum-capable security mechanisms for embedded systems are developed to permanently guarantee the confidentiality and integrity of data, even against attacks from future quantum computers.
