Controlling, Accounting and Financial Management

Research that works!!! Forward-looking financial management is essential for sustainable economic success. In the CRF degree programme, top experts in controlling, accounting and financial management conduct research at an international level in order to give companies a competitive edge through the latest know-how.

Digitalisation and sustainability...

... are megatrends that are causing discontinuous change in business and science. The CRF research team develops concrete, scientifically sound solutions for these practically relevant problems and at the same time endeavours to close the gap between theory and practice. Our four main research areas are also derived from this problem-solving expertise:

- Visual Analytics & Information Design

- Digital Accounting / Tax

- Data & Risk Analytics

In the area of Visual Analytics & Information Design, we research the optimal presentation of financial reports, management reports and interactive dashboards. The aim is a userfriendly design so that important statements, trends and complex correlations can be recognised at a glance, even with large amounts of data. We focus on established BI solutions and utilise modern technologies such as eye-tracking for new, practical insights.

The Digital Accounting/Tax research area is dedicated to the optimisation and automation of accounting and tax processes as well as the research and application of intelligent large language models in accounting and tax in order to demonstrate their potential and limitations. We also develop skills profiles for employees in accounting/tax and offer innovative e-learning courses with gamification elements to train specialists for the digital challenges in finance in a funny and effective way. Teaching and research take on a complementary perspective that aims for a human-centred approach and, as a result, humans and AI/IT tools act as partners.

Our research focus on Data & Risk Analytics centres on application-oriented quantitative methods in various areas of risk management. We use powerful econometric and statistical data science methods to analyse both, structured and unstructured data sets. In this context, we are increasingly focussing on big data and trying to generate added value for companies. In co-operation with research partners in Germany and abroad, we are also increasingly using AI and machine learning methods.
