Over the course of one year, the Vienna‑based IMWF Institute analyzed 151,000 online posts about 82 universities and universities of applied sciences, covering journalistic reporting, social media, and websites. The result: FH Upper Austria ranks number one nationwide among universities of applied sciences (FH/HAW sector) for best media reputation. Placing sixth overall, it also outperforms most traditional universities.
‘FH Upper Austria stands out with research on artificialintelligence, hydrogen, and industrial collaboration,’ the study’s authors note in an OTS release. Overall, FH Upper Austria scored particularly high in the category of report tonality, while the reach of its messages was also excellent. In the dimensions of knowledge transfer and employer attractiveness, the university achieved top ratings. Knowledge transfer includes applied research, funding and transfer activities, expert statements, interviews, and media events.”
“FH Upper Austria Does Good—and Talks About It” For Dr. Michael Rabl, President of FH Upper Austria, the study’s results also have a positive effect on how the institution sees itself: “We now have solid proof that it pays off to first do good things—and second, to talk about them. And clearly, our multipliers speak well about us too. Our thematic diversity, combined with the commitment and expertise of our employees, leaves a strong impression in the public eye.”
His Vice President for Research & Development, Dr. Johann Kastner, adds: “Our clear position as Austria’s number one university of applied sciences in research generates a wealth of content that is being covered across various channels.”
FH Upper Austria’s CFO, MMag. Isolde Perndl, is particularly pleased about the top ratings the institution received as an employer: “Job security, exciting career paths, and a family‑friendly work environment make us an attractive employer for dedicated professionals in teaching, research, and administration.”
The IMWF evaluation assessed visibility, topics, and the tonality of mentions across the dimensions of knowledge transfer, research & development, teaching and service quality, responsibility, management, and employer attractiveness. In all of these dimensions, FH Upper Austria scored above the average of its relevant competitors—resulting in its top position in media reputation.
Looking ahead, Michael Rabl aims to further strengthen the institution’s image among students: “Anyone studying at the university of applied sciences with the best media reputation can be proud of that. Our strong image also benefits graduates as they enter, switch, or advance in their careers.”
