FH Upper Austria Students Win WTUN Hackathon 2023

This year’s WTUN Hackathon focused on Climate Action and was open for all Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students of WTUN member institutions. The Hackathon challenge was to offer a solution to a Climate Action related issue. Students from different institutions, study majors, countries and cultures have been combined into very diverse teams to work together on a chosen topic within the UN Sustainable Development Goals #13 (Climate Action) and #17 (Partnerships for the Goals) and develop their global citizens skills. For 48 hours students discussed new ideas, developed potential solutions under the guidance of academic mentors and experts of WTUN member institutions. During a live Pitch Event the teams were able to present their ideas and solutions to expert judges.

Teams addressed topics such as food waste, air quality, circular economy, energy consumption or pollution. The winning teams were announced as follows:

First Prize: Team 12, ‘Green Titans‘ for an app that supports and incentivises the general public to track, reduce, and improve their household consumption.

Second Prize: Team 10, ‘The Cracker‘ for a service which supports key industry partners, such as restaurants, to sustainably manage organic waste, promoting a circular economy.

Third Prize: Team 29, ‘Greeneriee‘ for a product providing local fishermen with access to vital data and insights to adjust feeding schedules through a product of sensors installed within the aquaculture of their surroundings.
