CHE Ranking 2026: FH Upper Austria’s Steyr Campus once again ranked Austria’s top university of applied sciences for management

The Faculty of Businessand Management at FH Upper Austria’s Steyr Campus has once again been ranked Austria’s top university of applied sciences for management—for the third time—achieving outstanding scores in study conditions, teaching, and research.
With an average rating of 4.46 out of 5 stars for its six business-related bachelor’s degree programs, FH Upper Austria once again leads the student ranking in the category “overall study situation.” The Steyr Campus ranks first among all Austrian universities of applied sciences in study organization, support from teaching staff, and practical relevance.
In the category “facts about studies,” the Faculty of Management in Steyr also ranks among the top performers. All six programs are in the top group for “contact with professional practice,” achieving the maximum score of 6 out of 6 points. An impressive 99.4% of students complete their degrees within the standard time across all programs.
As by far the strongest research university of applied sciences in Austria, FH Upper Austria also leads clearly in the category “facts about research.” This is particularly evident in key research indicators: an average of €124,672 in third-party funding per professor, and 17 cooperative doctoral projects, underscore the faculty’s strong research performance. Four Steyr programs rank in the top group for acquiring third-party funding, and three programs for cooperative doctoral projects.
This once again places the Faculty of Management in Steyr among the top addresses for business studies in the German-speaking region. The current ranking included eight Austrian universities of applied sciences with a total of 34 business administration degree programs. At the Steyr Campus, six bachelor’s programs were evaluated.
Digital skills and international orientation
As a business administration program with an explicit digital focus, Marketing and Digital Business combines strong ratings in digital teaching elements (4.3) and practical relevance (4.3) with a 100% on-time graduation rate. All indicators in the “facts about studies” category are also in the top group.
The English-taught program Global Salesand Marketing stands out in the category of international orientation, scoring 9 out of 10 points. A 100% on-time graduation rate, along with top ratings for support (4.5) and practical relevance (4.4), further reinforces its excellent overall performance.

About the CHE Ranking
The CHE University Ranking is one of the most important university comparisons in the German-speaking region. It combines student evaluations of study conditions with factual data on studies, teaching, and research, providing valuable guidance for prospective students.
The ranking is conducted by the Centre for Higher Education (CHE), founded in 1994 by the German Rectors’ Conference. The ranking for businessand economics programs is based on data and assessments from around 35,000 surveyed students and professors, complemented by relevant data from external sources. Various categories are evaluated on a rating scale ranging from very good (5 stars) to very poor (1 star).
