We are proud to announce that Nadiia Sadova, the Phd student from the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria (former student of Food Technology and Nutrition) was recognised to be the winner of the WTUN Brian Cantor Scholarship Prize 2023/24.
She was awarded 2000€ for her scientific research, which responded to the 21 century challenges and proved to be cutting-edge and beneficial to people and society.
Nadiia’s project investigates how the intestinal barrier behaves under different stress factors and whether the negative changes such as tears and holes in this barrier can be prevented or minimized by the consumption of bioactive substances. This involved the implementation of the Drosophilia melanogaster (fruit fly) model organism and testing plant extracts containing abundant bioactive compounds designed and produced by industry partners.
“Being awarded the Brian Cantor scholarship was a big surprise for me”, - says Nadiia. “I applied for the scholarship due to the gentle push from my senior colleagues without having any expectations. I am thankful to the World Technology Universities Network for showing interest in my research and supporting PhD students t in their work. I strongly believe that science has to feed from the ideas worldwide, it has to internationalize and enrich itself from the researchers all over the globe. The WTUN greatly contributes to this important mission and helps scientists from technical universities connect. I think, endorsing collaboration between the universities of different countries is what helps the research flourish.”
