Backed by a consortium of HEIs and representative student unions, NELS draws on extensive expertise in fostering student engagement and civic involvement. The project runs from 1 February 2025 to 31 January 2028.

Annette Hintze – Welcome Session Leader
"Since 2007, I have been a staff member at the University of Duisburg-Essen, working at the Center for Quality Enhancement in Higher Education.
Among other things, I am committed to improving the study experience as the coordinator of the university-wide UDE Mentoring System, through the training of student tutors, in the LLI (Teaching and Learning Innovations) program for professors and teaching staff, and in the NELS project."
Bismark Amefianu Kudoafor – New Ways of Student Organising Leader
Bismark Amefianu Kudoafor serves as Chief Technical Officer at the All-Africa Students Union (AASU), where he drives transformative initiatives that advance student and youth development across the continent. His expertise spans youth development, student rights, climate action, lifelong learning, student mobility, and sustainable development, all of which he actively champions in his role at AASU.
Manja Klemenčič – Next Level Skills Leader
Manja Klemenčič is Senior Researcher at Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia and Associate at Department of Sociology, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Harvard University where she was an award-winning lecturer for the past 10 years. Her research focuses on student governments, representation, and agency in higher education, and she has published widely, including The Bloomsbury Handbook of Student Politics and Representation in Higher Education (2024). She is Joint Editor of the European Journal of Higher Education and regularly consults for international organizations and governments on higher education policy.
Silke Preymann – Future Challenges Leader
Silke Preymann is the head of the Master's programme in Human Resource Management and the scientific head of the Diversity Management department at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria. Her research focuses on organizational learning in higher education institutions. She is and was involved in a number of international projects (in some of them as a project manager) in the field of student engagement/ student belongingness and diversity management in higher education.

Anna Weinrich – GSF
Anna is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she has been an elected student representative throughout her activism from a local to an international level, formerly being the international officer for the The Union of Danish Upper Secondary School Students and a board member of the Organising Bureau of European School Student Unions. She just completed her mandate as a Steering Committee member at the Global Student Forum, and will continue there as policy officer. Anna is currently studying a bachelors in rhetorics at the University of Copenhagen, and has recently been elected to serve on the Advisory Council on Youth at the Council of Europe.
Benson Ngobia – KCA University
"I am a storyteller with a bias towards digital and new media in storytelling. I love travelling and discovering new things. Currently, I serve as the Dean of Students at KCA University and look forward to interacting with students from various backgrounds."
Charles Walcher – FH OOE
Charles Walcher is Vice Chairman of the Student Union of the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria (ÖH FHOÖ), a role he has held for two years until May 2025. He also works as a Scientific Research Assistant at the university’s Digitalization Centre, supporting AI workshops and related projects for students and staff.
Goski Alabi – ACCRA
Prof. Mrs. Goski Alabi is a Full Professor and one of Africa’s leading experts in Quality Management and Leadership, and Co-Founder and President of ACCRA University College, Accra. Prof. Mrs. Alabi is an academic, a consultant and an accomplished entrepreneur and author with more than 15 years of professional experience in academia, consultancy, regulation, advocacy and business. Prof. Mrs. Alabi serves on several public, corporate and international boards and committees, She is the President of African Council for Distance Education (ACDE), the Chair of the African network for Internationalization of Education (ANIE), the West African Representative of the Executive Board of the African Council for Distance Education (ACDE) (from March 2017).
Iris Kimizoglu – ESU
Iris is the President of the European Students’ Union (ESU) for the 2024/25 term. She previously held student representative roles at local, state, national, and international levels in Germany and has served on the ESU Executive Committee and Presidency team since 2022. Her work focuses on public responsibility, academic freedom, higher education governance and financing, and student social policy. She is pursuing an M.A. in Political Management, Public Policy, and Public Administration at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
Jacob Blasius – GSF
Jacob Blasius is the Executive Director of the Global Student Forum (GSF), representing students worldwide. He previously served as a Board Member of the European Students’ Union and Chairperson of Students Organizing for Sustainability International. He has experience in international advocacy, student rights, and inclusive education and is currently pursuing an MSc in International Relations at Aalborg University.
James Kodjie – AASU
James KODJIE is the Senior Programmes Officer at the All-Africa Students Union (AASU), where he leads initiatives on education rights, digital inclusion, democracy, climate action, capacity building and pan-Africanism. His work includes coordinating the Digital Inclusion Campaign across 11 Southern African countries and conducting the Student Governance Survey across Africa. James is pursuing a PhD in Interdisciplinary Studies (Public Policy and Social Change) at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).
Lamech Ang’ila – KCA
Lamech Ang’ila is Head of Alumni Relations and University Advancement at KCA University, where he leads global engagement strategies across more than 35 countries. He previously served as Dean of Students at KCA, supporting over 30,000 students, and pioneered the Department of Performing Arts, Film, and Media Studies. With a background in psychology, sociology, communication, and film, he is pursuing a PhD in Communication (Media Studies) and continues to advance youth empowerment, cultural preservation, and international collaborations through academia and filmmaking.
Louis Brau – ESU
Louis Brau is the head of the secretariat of ESU. He previously worked as a project officer at ESU and teaches European Higher Education Policies at Sciences Po Aix. He also worked at DG EAC of the European Commission and at the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA), gaining experience with European projects from both institutional and beneficiary sides. Louis holds a double master’s degree in Political Science/European Affairs from Sciences Po Aix and a master’s degree in European Interdisciplinary Studies from the College of Europe in Natolin.
Tamara Ciobanu – ESU
Tamara is a 25-year-old student pursuing Sustainable Development and Environmental Management at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca. She has been active in the student movement since 2017, serving as Vice President for Educational Policies and later Vice President for International Affairs within ANOSR. She is now engaged at the international level, focusing on quality assurance, academic integrity, and the European Universities Initiative.
Teresa Mwoma – ACDE
Prof. Teresa Mwoma is an Associate Professor in the Department of Early Childhood and Special Needs Education at Kenyatta University and Executive Director of the African Council for Distance Education, coordinating open, distance, and e-learning across Africa. She founded and coordinates the ECD Network for Kenya and previously managed higher education in emergencies for refugees in Dadaab and Kakuma camps. She has mentored over 40 graduate students and conducted more than 20 studies on early childhood care, education, and child protection. Her research interests include nurturing care, policy, adolescent mothers, and open and distance learning.
