Winter School in Medical Engineering 2024 - review
Key areas: Prosthetics, Materials and Medical Simulations
Date: 5 - 9 February 2024
The Department of Medical Engineeringand the International Office organized the fifth Winter School in Medical Engineering. The key areas were: “Prosthetics, Materials and Medical Simulations”. There were workshops, lectures, tutorials, field visits and social activities.
12 students from eight different universities joined us for the winter school. They were impressed by the laboratories and the hands on approach - after the lectures there was always a practical part and being such a small group, students could work in teams of 2 to apply the theoretical knowledge into practice.
One highlight was definitely the guided tour to the Kepler University Hospital where we could visit the hybrid operation laboratory for heart surgery with robot based imaging.
On the last day, the social activity took place: we got a guided tour through the voestalpine Stahlwelt and during the plant tour we got to see the blast furnace and we were also able to observe the hot slabs as they were guided through the various rollers. After that we went to the city center of Linz to visit the Linz brewery and have our farewell lunch there.
The main feedback we received after the winter school was: "We will definitely recommend the winter school to our classmates!"
