AMM & IPM Excursion to Graz - Exciting insights into the world of industry
On November 14 and 15, the Automotive Mechatronics and Management (AMM) and Innovation and Product Management (IPM) master's degree programs at Wels UAS went on an excursion to Graz that was both educational and inspiring.
Day 1: From railroad undercarriages to the Mercedes G-Class
Start at Siemens Mobility Austria Our first stop took us to the Siemens Mobility Austria plant in Graz. During an impressive factory tour, we were shown how chassis for a wide variety of rail vehicles are produced at this site. We were able to experience the entire production process at first hand - from the processing of the raw material to the final delivery. The precision and technology involved in the production of the bogies left a lasting impression on us.
Mercedes Benz development office - a look into the future
After a quick snack in the FH Joanneum canteen, we continued our journey to the Mercedes Benz development office in Graz. There we learned in an exciting presentation how the new electric Mercedes G-Class was developed. The design and development processes were explained to us, as well as the creation of current and innovative features. The detailed Q&A session with two members of the development team, who answered our numerous questions competently, was particularly valuable. Finally, we were able to take a close look at the test vehicles in the parking lot and get an impression of the modern interior.
Evening finale at the Glöcklbräu
We ended the first day in a relaxed atmosphere at the traditional Glöcklbräu. With good home cooking, refreshing drinks and stimulating conversation, we reflected on the impressions we had gathered and recharged our batteries for the next day.
Day 2: Innovation up close at AVL List GmbH
On the morning of the second day, a visit to AVL List GmbH, a global leader in the development and testing of drive systems, was on the agenda. The guided tour of the company offered us fascinating insights into state-of-the-art technology. We visited various test benches and robot systems and even had the opportunity to experience a Formula 1 simulator. This combination of theory and practice was an impressive illustration of AVL List's innovative strength and versatility.
Conclusion: an inspiring trip
The excursion to Graz was a successful combination of knowledge transfer, networking and team building. It gave us the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of global industrial groups and gain practical insights into innovative technologies and development processes.
A big thank you to everyone who made this trip possible and to the companies for their hospitality and openness. We will certainly remember this excursion for a long time to come!
