Introduction of the Quality Management System ISO 9001 for a 3D Printing Startup
The project team from FH Steyr has successfully completed all preparations for the implementation of the ISO 9001 management system in the young 3D printing startup FILAMENTE.

The foundation of the company FILAMENTE, specializing in contract manufacturing through additive manufacturing, originated during a lecture by the student Jonathan Amon and was consistently pursued. Thanks to the collaborative partnership between students and lecturers at FH Steyr, an extremely conducive environment for further growth and idea development emerged. This led to the consideration of implementing a comprehensive management system.
To delve deeper into the world of ISO 9001 and gain insights into the implementation and application of this management system in a significant Austrian company, Engel Austria GmbH invited the project team to an extensive tour. During this visit, students had the valuable opportunity to gather experiences regarding the minimum requirements and best practices of the management system.
Starting with the vision of a partially automated manufacturing process, students, in collaboration with faculty and experts, meticulously evaluated, described, and visualized all company operations in process briefs. By consistently applying the risk-based approach, significant progress was made in all processes, immediately implemented in practice. An extensive process FMEA was derived from the risk management process, proving to be a valuable tool for comprehensive risk analysis. Furthermore, a sophisticated Balanced Score Card was developed to ensure holistic corporate governance and drive continuous performance improvement.
FH OÖ Campus Steyr has made a significant contribution by providing practical training and close collaboration with companies, creating valuable learning opportunities for its students. Simultaneously, this collaboration has provided positive impulses for the local economy.
