Language skills and certificates

Demonstrating proficient language skills is essential for actively engaging in your chosen degree program. Depending on the degree you opt for, you will need to demonstrate your language proficiency by either undergoing a language test or submitting an official language certificate as listed below.

English certificates

We understand that your school and/or university courses might have been fully taught in English, however FH Upper Austria has a language policy where all applicants (with the exception of nationalities of USA, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand) are required to produce an official language certificate. 
Please note: confirmations from schools, universities or ministries stating English as medium of instruction will not be accepted! We do not accept Duolingo, Babbel, ...
Language certificates may not be older than two years when applying (except scool-leaving certificates).

We accept the following certificates:

English B2

→ Higher Secondary school-leaving certificate from the Austria, the European Union or Switzerland
→ TOEFL iBT 78
→ IELTS (academic) 6.0
→ Cambridge English: First (FCE-B2), CAE (Certificate in Advanced English), CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English), BEC Higher (Business English Certificate Higher)
→ PTE Academic 62
→ IB diploma with subject English at SL/HL

English C1

→ Higher Secondary school-leaving certificate from Austria, the European Union or Switzerland
→ TOEFL iBT 95
→ IELTS (academic) 7.0
→ Cambridge English: First (FCE-C1), CAE (Certificate in Advanced English), CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English), BEC Higher (Business English Certificate Higher)
→ PTE Academic 80
→ IB diploma with subject English at SL/HL

German certificates

We understand that your school and/or university courses might have been fully taught in German, however FH Upper Austria has a language policy where all applicants (with the exception of nationalities of Austria, Germany, Liechtenstein, South Tyrol and Switzerland) are required to produce an official language certificate. 
Language certificates may not be older than two years when applying (except school-leaving certificates).
